Luke: Part 10 – The Wonder Boy Jesus
We come to another one of the instances where Luke records events about Jesus not mentioned in any of the other Gospels. Luke gives us a glimpse into the life of the twelve-year-old Jesus. He grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. Luke mentions this two times. Jesus’ parents had come to Jerusalem for the festival of Passover and when they were done, they started making their way home to Nazareth, but it soon became apparent that their son, Jesus, was not with them. In a panic they head back to Jerusalem to find him. After three days of searching, they finally discover him in the Temple sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. Luke tells us that all who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. We see in this account that he is not just an average boy of 12 years. His parents didn’t know what to think. “Son,” his mother said to him, “why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere.” “But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they didn’t understand what he meant. Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart.
