Luke: Part 12 – Jesus is the Messiah, Son of God
Luke tells us that John the Baptist is the one who Isaiah says will prepare the way of the Lord: Isaiah had spoken of John when he said, “He is a voice shouting in the wilderness: ‘Prepare a pathway for the Lord’s coming! Make a straight road for him! Fill in the valleys, and level the mountains and hills! Straighten the curves, and smooth out the rough places! And then all people will see the salvation sent from God.’ ” One day when the crowds were being baptized by John, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in the form of a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my beloved Son, and I am fully pleased with you.” Jesus was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry. Who is this Jesus of Nazareth? God our Father reveals that Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is anointed by God to be the fulfillment of the promise to David, that his descendant would occupy his throne forever.
