Luke: Part 3 – The Annunciation
  -

The archangel Gabriel was dispatched from the presence of God on a mission to make the most important announcement in the history of the world to the young virgin, Mary, a descendant of none other than King David, Israel’s greatest king. Mary was to be the mother of the promised Messiah. Mary is the woman in Genesis 3:15, where God says, “And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” Mary’s son, Jesus Christ, will strike the head of Satan, even as Satan strikes the heel of Jesus. In short, even as Satan attempts to kill Jesus, Jesus will eventually, successfully destroy Satan. One wonders, is Mary foretold by the prophets elsewhere in scripture? In Isaiah 7:14, God tells us/Israel, “All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us’. The end has begun. Jesus will come to establish His kingdom.
