Wisdom: An Introduction – Week 1: Discipline & Success
PASTOR ALAN DUNCALFE   -

No one likes to talk about discipline. Discipline is a difficult thing to embrace because it requires personal sacrifice and we by nature are self-centred. We don’t like to be deprived of what we want. Solomon begins the book of Proverbs with these words: “These are the proverbs of Solomon, David’s son, king of Israel. Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just, and fair. These proverbs will give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young.” Well, it’s not just the young that need discernment and knowledge. Sadly, too many of us have never really grown up. We are still infantile in our thinking and in the way that we live. Let us pray that the Lord will do a profound work in our lives as we seek to gain the wisdom of God.
